Behind the music
There’s a life behind these words.
A lot of what I write comes from personal experience. Not every line is a literal account of something that happened, but there’s real passion behind the songs and things I’ve struggled to say any other way.
When I talk about going through the valley and finally coming back, I’m thinking about a time when life felt very different. I was rebuilding myself, working constantly and shutting people out. Even when I was trying to move forward, there were moments when I felt completely on my own.
I originally wanted to reach people through content. That didn’t feel the way I’d imagined. Music has given me another way to use my voice. I feel freer in it, and more able to put the difficult parts alongside the hope, energy and determination that came after them.
I want someone going through their own difficult stretch to hear something they recognise. Maybe a line puts words to what they’re feeling. Maybe it gives them a little energy to keep going. I can’t know what a song will mean to someone else, but that possibility matters to me.
That same reason runs through EWS: the workbooks, the reminders on the clothing and the community. They come from wanting to share what I’ve learned and make room for people who are finding their own way forward.
Thank you for listening.
